Pond Building 101!

Every year I make plans to accomplish some big home improvement project. For years now I have always wanted to install a second backyard pond but never had the time to do it. Well, this was the year to tackle the dirt digging job.

We ordered the complete pond kit off ebay for $455 which was not a bad price.

This is what the location for the pond looked like before we started clearing everything out.
And this is what it looked like after we removed all the plants. Now we start digging out the hole.

And now the waterfall starts to take shape.

After we completed digging out the base for the pond it was time to install the under layment and pond liner.

And then finally the rock was delivered and installed.

It took two weeks to build everything but it was worth the work and many evenings will be enjoyed sitting by the new pond

Hurricane Charley is coming! You better "hunker down!"

I am a day late posting this but better late than never.  Hard to believe that 10 years ago we were listening to Tom Terry say "you better hunker down!" Hurricane Charley was on its way, but the path looked like it would miss Downtown Orlando.

Boy, were they wrong with that weather report. When the electricity went out I realized (the hard way) that Charley turned course and the eye went directly over Downtown Orlando with winds gusting up to 135 mph. It sounded a freight train and I thought the roof was going to be ripped off the house.

When it was over the devastation was amazing. I wanted to share a few photos that were taken the next morning walking down Washington Street towards Lake Eola and, around Downtown Orlando.
